When He Had Given Thanks

John 6:11

And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.

Giving thanks for our food has a long history. Here Jesus Christ, the Son of God, not only gave thanks for the five barley loaves and two small fish, He gave a miracle that multiplied this lad’s lunch into enough food to feed thousands! This is the only miracle of Christ that is recorded in all four Gospels.

Every meal we eat is a gift from God and a reminder of the miracles of creation. So it is only fitting that we follow Christ’s example of thanking God for the food He provides.
