Playing With Fire

Proverbs 6:27-29

Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be seared? So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; whoever touches her shall not be innocent.

Continuing with the theme of last week’s proverb (Proverbs 6:24-26), Solomon here vividly compares sexual sins with playing with fire. When tempted to sin, we do not see the destructive fire that will surely and inevitably burn us. That’s why the Bible tries to burn this message into our consciences in advance, so we will see beyond the hormonal haze.
