Patience and Comfort of the Scriptures

Romans 15:4

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

Listen to the "Verse by Verse" episode covering this scripture.

Our loving God recorded the Bible for our benefit! The stories of the Old Testament and New Testament are there to teach us, strengthen us, comfort us and give us the sure hope of His plan.

We can observe this in the Psalms, for example, where the poets many times referred back to the events of the creation and the Exodus to encourage the reader (see Psalms 105, 106 and 114, for example).

Since God is all-powerful and can part the waters of the Red Sea, He can also help us in our troubles.
