Lovingkindness and Trust

Psalm 36:7

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.

Growing up as a shepherd, King David spent many hours in the outdoors, observing the wonders of God’s creation. He was obviously impressed by the way baby birds would seek the shelter of their mother’s wings, since he mentions it several times in the Psalms (for example, 17:8; 57:1). It is a touching metaphor for how we can seek protection under God’s care.

Jesus also used this metaphor in Matthew 23:37.

God’s lovingkindness is sure and precious. God is completely trustworthy, so we can rest assured of His care.
