“I Will Not Be Afraid”

Psalm 3:5-6

I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.

Even in the most difficult circumstances, with Absalom’s rebel army preparing to attack, King David praised God for sustaining and protecting him. With his natural eyes he saw the ten thousands of enemies seeking to destroy him. But with the eyes of faith, David knew, as Paul later echoed, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

Many of David’s prayers of praise and his pleas for protection are recorded in the Psalms. For more about prayer, see “How to Pray.”
