Come Out of the World!
Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city—take them out of this place!”
The two angels had struck with blindness those who wanted to have homosexual relations with them. Now these messengers of God told Lot to get his family out before they destroyed Sodom.
Just as Lot was warned to flee from the coming judgment of God, we, too, have been warned to come out of the world so we don’t have to suffer the wrath of God (Revelation 18:4).
Yet Lot lingered. Remember, it was still night when the angels told Lot to get his family together and leave. It was early in the morning when the angels finally took hold of the hands of Lot, his wife and their two daughters to get them out of the city (Genesis 19:16). God was patient and showed Lot mercy, even though some of his family chose to remain in Sodom.
God is patient with those He works with. But He has warned us to come out of the world. Perhaps Lot was trying to convince the rest of his family to leave, and that was why he lingered. But each of us has to make the individual decision to come out of society’s ungodly lifestyles. We can’t wait for others to join us before we make the decision to leave this world’s ways and follow God.
Study 2 Corinthians 6:17 and analyze how you have “come out” of this world. Consider ways you need to more fully “come out from among them and be separate.”
“Come out” is another way of saying “be converted.” Learn more about genuine conversion by reading our article “What Is Conversion?”
