You Were Bought at a Price

1 Corinthians 6:20

For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

In proving to the Corinthians that they should not be involved in sexual immorality, the apostle Paul reminded them that they were not their own. God owns true Christians, and not just because He created us. He also paid a price for us. And not just any price, but the most valuable price imaginable—the death of His Son!

“Bought at a price alludes to someone purchasing a slave at a slave auction. With His death Jesus Christ paid the cost to redeem us from our slavery to sin” (Nelson’s NKJV Study Bible, note on 1 Corinthians 6:20).

Since God paid such a high price for us, everything we do should be to the glory of God. We must not return to our old, cruel slave master, sin.
