Who Inhabits Eternity

Isaiah 57:15

For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”

To the human mind, this is a paradox. God, who lives in eternity—outside of time, which He created—and is so far above what we can even imagine, is willing to live with those who are little in their own eyes!

“This verse matches Ex. 34:6 as a defining passage for understanding the biblical view of God. Although God is completely unapproachable, He reaches down to lift up those who humble themselves before Him” (The Nelson Study Bible note on Isaiah 57:15).

The Lofty One is willing to lift up the lowly ones who humbly seek Him! For more about humility, read the article about “The Pharisee and the Tax Collector.”
