The Word Is God

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1 takes us back as far or farther than Genesis 1:1 to a beginning when only God (who we now know as the Father) and the Word (who we call Jesus Christ, the Son) existed. They lived and worked together throughout eternity in perfect harmony. They planned and created the angelic realm together. They planned and created the physical universe and the pinnacle of their purpose, human beings (Hebrews 2:8-10).

John explains in John 1:14 that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,” showing clearly that Jesus Christ is God. We have a God who loves us so much, He was willing to come “in the likeness of men” and humble Himself to the point of “the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:7-8).
