The Sabbath of the LORD

Leviticus 23:3

“Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.”

Listen to the "Verse by Verse" episode covering this scripture.

The Sabbath is listed as one of the “feasts of the LORD” (Leviticus 23:2). These were not the feasts or Sabbaths of the Jews or the Israelites, but of God Himself, the One who created the Sabbath by resting after the creation of mankind (Genesis 2:2-3).

Jesus Christ, who was the Word or Spokesman through whom God created “all things” (John 1:3), explained that He was the “Lord of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:28) and it was created for our benefit. It is a gift for all mankind.
