The Right to Become Children of God

John 1:12

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

The Word, who came to the earth as Jesus Christ, was not known by the world He had created and was not accepted by His own family and people (John 1:1-3, 10-11, 14). But God did call a few then and now to believe in His name and to receive Him and His message.

After opening their minds to understand, He gave them the opportunity to repent, be baptized and receive the gift of forgiveness and the Holy Spirit, which makes it possible for us to be born as God’s children (Acts 2:38; John 3:5-6; 1 John 3:1-3).

This is the incredible potential that God has made possible for human beings—not just those called now, but all those God will call in the future. For more about this, see our articles “Children of God” and “Becoming Sons and Daughters of God.”
