The Result of the Flood
And all flesh died that moved on the earth: birds and cattle and beasts and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every man.
This verse reinforces what we covered yesterday—that this was a worldwide flood that covered every inch of the earth’s surface. Here we read that all animal and human life that was not on the ark died in this flood. God literally destroyed all humanity and started over with eight human beings.
We must remember that this doesn’t show a harsh God who hates humanity. God created human beings and has great love for all of His creation—He desires all (including the antediluvian generation) to be saved and know His truth (1 Timothy 2:4). He has a plan that will ensure they will have a future opportunity for salvation. The reason this generation was destroyed was the extreme level of moral depravity they demonstrated (Genesis 6:5). This generation was so violent that they were literally destroying themselves (verses 11-13).
