The Earth Is the Lord’s

Psalm 24:1-2

The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters.

King David sets the stage of this psalm by remembering the creation. God fashioned the earth, and He owns it and all the creatures He created upon it.

In Genesis the earth is described as being covered with water before God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear” (Genesis 1:2, 9). The dry land He called “Earth” (Genesis 1:10), and in that way He has “founded it upon the seas.”
