Tears to Joy
Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.
This verse highlights a theme that runs throughout the entire Bible. That theme is that oftentimes those who are faithful to God suffer. Life is not always easy when we choose to live God’s way of life. Hebrews 11 provides many examples of great servants of God who had to suffer because of their faithfulness.
But God does promise that the trials that often come from living God’s way of life will ultimately be rewarded by overwhelming joy. This psalm is echoed by the words of Jesus Christ: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4).
God’s people must be focused on “the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). What God is preparing for us will bring us the joy and comfort we are promised—a time when “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (Revelation 21:4).
