Son of the Highest
“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.”
God sent the angel Gabriel to give Mary the news that she, a virgin, would have a Son (Luke 1:26-31).
Being visited by an angel and receiving this news must have been an incredible shock to Mary. But Gabriel’s announcement that her Son would be the Son of the Highest—the Son of God—and would be given the throne of David must have seemed even more incredible.
The miracles and announcements kept coming! It seems Mary “kept all these things and pondered them in her heart” (Luke 2:19), but she may not have really understood them until after Jesus’ resurrection.
