Run for the Crown

1 Corinthians 9:24-25  

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

We are naturally drawn to challenges and goals. For many people today, those goals provide excitement and fulfillment for a time. The effort and preparation they put into an athletic event, creative endeavor or travel experience gives temporary satisfaction.

But God has called Christians to so much more. The eternal crown of inheritance in the Kingdom of God is so much more valuable than winning a race. If an Olympic athlete trains diligently for a sporting event, how much more should we discipline ourselves and train to become children of God?
