Be Diligent ... Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth

2 Timothy 2:15

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Listen to the "Verse by Verse" episode covering this scripture.

The Bible is worthy of diligent study. If we apply ourselves to learning from God, we won’t be ashamed but will be approved. “What is approved is what remains after testing, like metals that have been refined by fire” (The Nelson Study Bible comment on 2 Timothy 2:15).

God’s Word—the Holy Bible—is truth, and God’s servants must handle it carefully and explain it correctly. Paul warned about arguing over words in the previous verse. We can twist words to try to prove our point and win an argument, all the while harming the audience. God’s Word is not like the “profane and idle babblings” that cause more ungodliness (verse 16). God’s Word, rightly taught, leads to growth and godliness.
