The Hand of the Diligent Will Rule

Proverbs 12:24

The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy man will be put to forced labor.

The Bible presents many examples of diligent people who were rewarded with greater authority and ability to serve. Consider Joseph, David, Daniel and Paul, for example. Their hard work was eventually recognized and their preparation rewarded with additional responsibilities.

Jesus Christ also highlighted the contrast between diligence and laziness in His description of the faithful and the evil servants.

“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods” (Matthew 24:45-47).

But the lazy and selfish servant earns punishment, “weeping and gnashing of teeth” (verse 51).
