Power of the Tongue

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Communication is an essential—and powerful—part of life.

Our words have the potential for great good. With our tongues we can give warning to those in danger and encouragement to those in despair—thus potentially saving lives.

But we can also use our tongues to do great harm. Lies, slander, gossip and hate-filled words can contribute to the deaths of others.

The Bible gives practical and helpful advice about how we should use our tongues. Learn more in the articles in our section on “The Joys and Challenges of Communication.”
