Our High Priest at the Right Hand of the Throne of Majesty
Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.
Listen to the "Verse by Verse" episode covering this scripture.
After giving His life as a perfect sacrifice for our sins, Jesus Christ was resurrected and returned to the throne room of the universe, to the most important position at God the Father’s right hand.
The message of the book of Hebrews to this point is summed up in saying that Jesus Christ is our permanent, perfect High Priest. His priesthood far supersedes the physical high priests. They could only go into the Holy of Holies once a year with sacrifices that could not really forgive sin. And they were mortal and died.
But Jesus Christ took His perfect sacrifice to the real throne room that the Holy of Holies was only a copy of.
His sacrifice is sufficient to pay our death penalty, and He did not have to then leave the Holy of Holies, but is seated at the right hand of the true mercy seat, God’s throne. He is immortal and all-powerful—and He loves us. Christ is the perfect High Priest of which the Levitical priests were only a type.
