Oh, Give Thanks to the LORD!
On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the LORD: Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works!
King David was an accomplished composer, but even more he was a zealous worshipper of God! He recognized and meditated on the wonders of God’s creation and His awesome interventions in the lives of His people.
The song recorded here in 1 Chronicles 16 commemorated the bringing of the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem, and this song is also found in three different psalms: Psalms 96:1-12; 105:1-15; and 106:1, 47-48.
