Love Will Grow Cold

Matthew 24:12-13

“And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.”

Jesus Christ described many terrible events that will occur in the time before His second coming, but His statement here about lawlessness abounding summarizes both the cause of all the troubles and the danger to His followers.

God’s laws define the way of love. They show us how to love God and our fellow man. As society becomes more and more antagonistic to God’s laws, real love will be less and less in evidence. Even Christ’s followers will be in danger, whether pulled down by the temptations of society or beaten down by its injustice and trials.

But Jesus encourages us to endure—to stay on the narrow path, to renew our first love for Him and to reflect His boundless love to others. If we do endure, we will be saved and receive that priceless welcome into the Kingdom of God when Christ will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
