Let Him Glory in the Lord

1 Corinthians 1:31

That, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.”

The message of 1 Corinthians contains repeated warnings against pride. Paul reminded the Corinthians that “not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise” (1 Corinthians 1:26-27).

The goal is for all people to ultimately recognize that the real glory belongs to the Creator God, not to us weak humans. We must not be proud of any spiritual gifts God has given us, for the real glory truly belongs to God. Pride gives us a selfish, wrong focus that is spiritually deadly.

For more about the contrast between the dangers of pride and the benefits of humility that God wants us to learn, see “Overcoming Dangerous Emotions: Pride” and “The Pharisee and the Tax Collector.”
