Keep My Law as the Apple of Your Eye

Proverbs 7:2

Keep my commands and live, and my law as the apple of your eye.

The commands and laws described here are based on God’s laws—the laws that God gave for our benefit (Deuteronomy 10:13). God’s way works—it produces good results and leads to life. The apple of your eye appears to refer to the pupil of the eye, and protecting it is a symbol of tender, loving care.

“People should guard wise words as instinctively as they protect the pupil of the eye. God cares for His people with the same diligence (Deut. 32:10)” (NKJV Study Bible comment on Proverbs 7:1-5).
