How to Be the Friend of Christ

John 15:14

“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”

Many people in the world claim to follow Jesus Christ. But few have studied His words (recorded in the four Gospels) to learn what He expects of His followers. Christ taught that following Him is more than just professing a belief in Him (Luke 6:46).

The consistent teaching of Christ is that those who desire a relationship with Him must do the things that He taught!

In this verse, Jesus is clearly teaching that those He considers His friends are those who obey Him. Jesus Christ clearly taught that the law of God was to be kept (Luke 18:20). Earlier in this chapter He spoke these powerful words: “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love” (John 15:10).
