Hoping for Nothing in Return

Luke 6:35

“But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.”

It’s much easier to love those who love us and to do good to those who do good to us. We are willing to lend if we know we will receive it back.

Jesus Christ didn’t say not to do these things, but He did say they weren’t worthy of special commendation.

No, those things don’t impress God. But God is impressed by those who selflessly give and love with no thought of return. This kind of love reflects the awesome love shown by our Father and our Savior.
