His Song in the Night
Psalm 42:8
The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me—a prayer to the God of my life.
The psalmist contrasted his longing for God and his feelings of being cut off (Psalm 42:1-3), with his expectation of God’s deliverance and love (verse 8). In verse 3 he wrote, “My tears have been my food day and night,” while in verse 8 he waits for God’s “lovingkindness in the daytime” and His song in the night.
The assurance that God hears our prayers and will provide hope and help is an important theme of the Psalms. Read more about how God wants us to pray in the article “How to Pray.”
