His Commandments Are Not Burdensome

1 John 5:3

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

God is love, and His way of life—outlined in His law—is a way of love. The 10 Commandments show us how to love God and how to love our fellow human beings.

God gave His laws for our good (Deuteronomy 10:13). They are not a burden, as many people believe, but a delightful way of life that ultimately produces the good things we really want most in life—good relationships, peace and real joy.

John’s statement was also a reminder of what Jesus Christ had told His followers: “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15).
