Hear Your Father and Fear Your God
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother.
God designed the family and all authority for our benefit. Obeying the Fifth Commandment (Exodus 20:12) to honor our father and mother allows us to avoid the mistakes of inexperience and puts us on the path toward long life and blessings. Respecting our parents helps us learn to properly reverence God, who truly has our best interests at heart. When we fear to disobey and displease Him, we build a foundation for understanding how the universe really works. This is the starting place for an eternally successful life.
