He Is a New Creation

2 Corinthians 5:17  

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

When God created human beings, He created us in His image (Genesis 1:26). We have the potential to become like Him—to be His children. But our creation was not complete. Our sins separate us from God (Isaiah 59:2).

So Jesus Christ came to give His life as payment for our sins, to allow us a fresh start and to make it possible for us to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit that makes our spiritual transformation—the creation of spiritual character—possible. If we have Christ in us, we are a new creation.
