God’s Future Home

Psalm 132:13

For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place.

Here, and in the verses that follow, we read about the future significance of Jerusalem.

God decided long ago that when the Kingdom of God comes to earth, Jerusalem will be the capital city and His dwelling place. God intends to make Jerusalem His dwelling place forever (verse 14).

When Jesus Christ returns to earth, He will first come to Jerusalem and establish it as the capital of the earth during His 1,000-year reign (Zechariah 14:4, 16). God’s law will begin to be kept in Jerusalem and then spread to the rest of the earth (Psalm 132:17; Micah 4:2).

After the Millennium and the Great White Throne Judgment, the earth will be purified (2 Peter 3:10). Then the Father will come to earth to live forever with His children (Revelation 21:2-3). The family of God will dwell forever in the New Jerusalem.
