Father of the Faithful
Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.
Listen to the "Verse by Verse" episode covering this scripture.
God uses Abraham’s example of faith as a pattern for all of God’s people throughout history.
Abraham believed that God would do what He promised, even though having a son when he was 100 and his wife was 90 was physically impossible. He believed God and strove to obey all of His commands. In that way, Abraham is the father of the faithful, even the faithful gentiles who were not physically descended from him.

God’s wonderful promises to Abraham included physical blessings for his physical descendants and spiritual blessings for all humanity through Abraham’s Seed, Jesus Christ. For more about these promises, see “God’s Promise to Abraham.”
