Father of Mercies

2 Corinthians 1:3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.

Listen to the "Verse by Verse" episode covering this scripture.

God reveals Himself as the Father of mercies and God of all comfort. The Psalms remind us many times that “His mercy endures forever” (Psalm 118:1, etc.). He offers to comfort us as a mother comforts her child (Isaiah 66:13).

When God comforts and encourages us, He wants us to pass it on. He “comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (2 Corinthians 1:4).
