Competing According to the Rules
2 Timothy 2:5
And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.
Athletes, like soldiers (verses 3-4) must endure hardships and stay focused on the goal. That focus includes being sure to follow the rules, for how tragic it would be for an Olympic athlete, who has spent hundreds of hours in training and perseverance, to be disqualified for an infraction of the rules!
In the same way, a Christian must be focused, law-abiding and persevering.
