Called to Be Kings and Priests
And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Jesus Christ gave His life so we could be forgiven and then He was resurrected from the dead. He will soon return and take His rightful place as King of Kings and Lord of Lords over the kingdoms of the earth (Revelation 11:15; 19:16).
His forgiven followers are now preparing to help Him at that time. That is why He is making them “kings and priests” to help in administering the government of the Kingdom of God on earth (Revelation 5:10).
Jesus made clear to His disciples that positions of leadership are intended to be positions of service, and that His government truly has the best interests of the governed in mind (Matthew 20:25-28). Being faithful over our current little “kingdom” can prepare us for larger responsibilities (Matthew 25:21).
