Bow Down Your Ear to Me

Psalm 31:2

Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily; be my rock of refuge, a fortress of defense to save me.

God, the great Creator of the universe, lives far above this earthly realm. Yet He is willing to not only hear our prayers, but to stoop down to listen to us closely and to scoop us up to quickly save us from danger.

David again describes God as a rock of refuge and a fortress, as he does in many other Psalms (for example, Psalms 18:2 and 91:1-3). This symbolism was especially meaningful to David, who spent years as a hunted man, hiding out in the rocky mountainous areas that gave him some protection. David knew that the real source of His protection was God.
