Blessed to Be Able to Give

1 Chronicles 29:14-15

“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given You. For we are aliens and pilgrims before You, as were all our fathers; our days on earth are as a shadow, and without hope.”

King David’s generous and abundant offering for God’s temple inspired the leaders of Israel to also give willingly (1 Chronicles 29:1-6). Those who gave were not grudging or reluctant, but cheerful and joyous.

When David blessed God, he did so with humility. Instead of taking pride in all he had contributed, David recognized that it had all come from God in the first place. Without God, our life is a mere shadow without hope.

But with God, we have meaning and purpose in our lives that is incredibly more valuable than anything physical we may receive or give. For more about that awesome purpose for our lives, see the section on “What Is the Meaning of Life?”
