Being a Blessing to Others
And Laban said to him, “Please stay, if I have found favor in your eyes, for I have learned by experience that the Lord has blessed me for your sake.”
Have you ever noticed how sometimes one person’s presence can change an entire situation for the better? Laban definitely did. Laban could see that Jacob’s hard labor was causing him to prosper. One of the keys to Jacob’s success was his healthy work ethic.
The Bible teaches that we should work hard. Those who are diligent in their work will excel and make a profit (Proverbs 12:24; 14:23).
But just having a strong work ethic is not all that is involved in being blessed. Colossians 3:23 adds an important element: “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”
A Christian’s work ethic is to be based on working as if he or she was working directly for God. Working with this attitude will cause us to:
- Do high quality work.
- Make proper use of our time on the job.
- Make honesty and integrity the trademark of our professional interactions.
