ASK: Ask, Seek, Knock

Matthew 7:7-8

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

What a wonderful offer from Jesus Christ, to welcome our requests and to be willing to respond! But the implication is of being persistent and tenacious in prayer. We aren’t just to ring the doorbell and leave, but to pray, pray and pray again. “We ask for what we wish; we seek for what we miss; we knock for that from which we feel ourselves shut out” (Jamieson, Fausset and Brown, comment on Matthew 7:7).

We know from other passages that God does not answer prayers like a genie fulfilling wishes. We’ll explore some of the other passages that explain what types of prayers God answers—and doesn’t answer—in the Daily Bible Verse Blog in the next few days.
