As I Imitate Christ
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
Paul had encouraged the Christians in Corinth to seek other members’ well-being before their own, to give no offense and to do all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:24, 31-32). Paul himself had set the example in all these things, “not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved” (1 Corinthians 10:33).
In 1 Corinthians 11:1 he encouraged the congregation to follow his example, not because he was great, but because he was following the example of the great One—Jesus Christ.
Paul had made clear that he was not seeking a following for himself (1 Corinthians 1:12-15), but he wanted them to build on the real foundation, Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:11).
