As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.
King Solomon is a master of memorable images! Something as lovely as a gold ring would look ridiculous as a nose ring for a pig. And to God, lacking discretion is just as disgusting as an unclean pig.
The book of Proverbs gives much instruction to help us all grow in wisdom and discretion so we don’t have to be part of this ludicrous picture.
