Accumulate Wealth Honestly

Proverbs 21:6

Getting treasures by a lying tongue is the fleeting fantasy of those who seek death.

This proverb is all about ethics. The main point we are to learn here is that we are not to accumulate wealth through dishonesty. There are many ways that people can experience financial success as a result of dishonesty.

An extreme example of this would be Bernie Madoff, a former stockbroker, investment adviser and financier who was convicted of fraud for operating a Ponzi scheme by which he stole billions of dollars. His dishonesty gained him temporary wealth misappropriating the hard-earned money of others who entrusted their wealth to him. But he was caught, and the fruit of his lies destroyed his life and hurt many people.

Instead of dishonesty or any other unethical practice, the surest way to financial success is to heed the advice of Proverbs 10:4: “The hand of the diligent makes [one] rich.”
