The Abomination of Desolation Spoken of by Daniel

Matthew 24:15

“Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand).

Jesus Christ referred back to the prophecies of Daniel to identify a warning sign of the beginning of the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21). Daniel’s prophecies of an abomination that makes desolate were to have several fulfillments.

Bible commentators widely recognize that “Daniel 11:31 refers to Antiochus IV, who desecrated the temple and set up an idol to Zeus in it. His actions were a prelude to what the ultimate ‘man of sin’ will do” (Nelson’s NKJV Study Bible, note on Matthew 24:15).
