A Very Present Help

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

We all face troubles of various kinds, and it is a real blessing to have a strong ally and a place of refuge from those troubles. God offers that strong assurance and true help to those who love Him.

“In the ancient Middle East, cities were built on heights with high walls for defense. Yet there was no city and no defensive structure that was impenetrable. However, the psalmist describes here the One who is a sure defense” (NKJV Study Bible note on Psalm 46:1).
