A Passover Introspective

The self-examination process for Passover can be daunting. This Bible Study Starter will get you started with important questions to consider before participating in this year’s Passover service.

NOTE: The Passover service is exclusively for Christians who have repented of their sins and been baptized into the Body of Christ. If you’re interested in learning more about the requirements for this annual observance, follow the links above or read our article “Passover and Forgiveness.”

John 13:3-5, 12-15

(New King James Version)

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. ...

So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.”

1 Corinthians 11:23-29

(New King James Version)

For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

Starter Questions:

  1. The foot-washing ceremony reminds us of the need to serve our brethren (Matthew 20:26-28). What are three ways you can better serve your brothers and sisters in Christ this year?

  3. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ also opened the door for your salvation (Hebrews 4:14-16). What does this tell you about your worth in the eyes of God?
  4. What are some of the lessons we can learn from the Passover service?
