“Casting All Your Care Upon Him”

1 Peter 5:6-7

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

If we could always and plainly see how weak and helpless we are in comparison to the awesome Creator God, we would have no problem being humble. But the deceiver, Satan the devil, excels at helping to pump up our pride. His plan is to make sure we aren’t teachable and submissive, so we won’t humble ourselves and then we won’t be exalted as members of God’s family.

By being aware of Satan’s devices and resisting his attacks, we can humbly learn from God and strive to live as He lives. As we do that, we can give our anxious cares—the many things beyond our control—to Him. Jesus Christ discusses the subject of worry in more detail in Matthew 6:25-34.

To know that the all-powerful Creator actually cares for us is mind-boggling! He does not just love us in an abstract way. He is intimately concerned about our concerns, our aches, our pains, our anxious worries. Jesus Christ lived a human life and can sympathize with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15).

Peter may have been alluding to Psalm 55:22: “Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” What a wonderful promise!
