The Body of Christ

1 Corinthians 12:27

Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

The apostle Paul uses an extended analogy in 1 Corinthians 12, comparing the Church of God with the human body. Each member of the body has an important role, though they are all different. The foot and the hand should not compare themselves or feel less important or less a part of the body.

In the same way, members of the Church should recognize that God has put us in the spiritual body of Christ “just as He pleased” (verse 18). He wants us to have no divisions and to feel for our fellow members of the body. We should suffer with those who suffer and rejoice with those who rejoice (verse 26).
